The Orland Park Arts Commission will host a jazz concert with Ava Logan on Sunday, September 26, at the Orland Park Cultural Arts Center.

Ava Logan is an award winning singer-actress from Washington, D.C. who now lives in the Chicago area. A graduate of Yale and the University of Pennsylvania, Logan is a veterinarian by day and a jazz singer at night. The classically trained vocalist has performed jazz, pop and rhythm and blues in the United States and abroad.

"We are very excited to have Ava Logan perform at the village's Cultural Arts Center," said Trustee Kathy Fenton, chair of the village's Community Outreach and Special Events Committee. "It's wonderful that the Arts Commission is again offering outstanding musical entertainment at a reasonable cost, close to home," she added.

Logan has appeared at the Chicago Cultural Center, Millennium Park, Maxim's for the City of Chicago, Drury Lane Theater and at a number of jazz venues across the country. She currently performs at Pete Miller's Jazz Lounge in Wheeling, at Café Pyrenees Restaurant in Libertyville and at 94 West in Orland Park. Logan released her first major CD, So Many Stars! in 2008.

Logan will perform on September 26 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., after which refreshments will be served until 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased at the cashier's office at the Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, 14700 South Ravinia Avenue. The cashier's office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Only 150 tickets will be sold and a limited number of tickets may be available at the door.

The Arts Commission will host its Dark Shadows Film Festival at the Cultural Arts Center on Saturday, October 23 from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Admission is free.

"The Dark Shadows event is sponsored Orland Park's own MPI Media Group," Fenton noted. "This promises to be a great fest as attendees are invited to dress as characters from the ‘Dark Shadows' television series," she added.

On Friday, December 3, the Arts Commission is sponsoring a holiday concert featuring Orland Park native and baritone Jonathan Beyer, mezzo-soprano Katherine Drago and pianist Stephen Hargreaves. Tickets are $15.00 each and may be purchased at the Village Hall. For more information, call 708/403-6140.
