It's an afternoon of memories, camaraderie, food, music and a salute to service.

The Village of Orland Park Veterans Commission will hold its 19th annual luncheon for Orland Park veterans on Sunday, October 14. The 1 p.m. event will be held in the Jane Barnes Annex at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 South Ravinia Avenue.

"This year marks the nineteenth year that the Veterans Commission has brought veterans together to enjoy a meal and spend some time together," said Mayor Keith Pekau, a veteran of the United States Air Force. "It's a nice afternoon for vets of all ages to gather for a meal and enjoy each other's company."

Tickets are $15 per person for Orland Park veterans and their families and include the meal, wine, beer and soft drinks. A limit of 100 tickets will be sold.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Sweet Reminders with Nancy Baumet and Dia Madden. The duo performs music from the 50s and 60s throughout the Chicago area with beautiful harmonies, quick wit, quirky props and some audience participation.

"This is a good time every year and we thank the Veterans Commission for hosting it," said Village Trustee Jim Dodge, village board liaison to the commission and a United States Army veteran. "It's fun to see veterans from different eras come together, share a meal and share a few stories."

The luncheon is limited to Orland Park veterans only. If a non-resident is a member of an Orland Park military organization, i.e., the Orland Memorial American Legion Post #111 or the Orland-Palos Reber-Tesmond Veterans of Foreign Wars #2604, a membership card must be presented to purchase tickets.

Tickets must be purchased in advance through Friday, October 12 at the Cashier's Office at Orland Park's Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, 14700 South Ravinia Avenue, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The cashier's office is open on the first and third Monday of the month from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tickets will NOT be available at the door.
