In anticipation of the heavy rains forecasted for the Orland Park area, the village’s Public Works Department is checking ponds, street inlets and other potential problem areas. Village staff is also checking all emergency generator equipment and portable pumping equipment.

The village’s Utility Division has been out checking inlets and is coordinating with contractors on active village construction projects to be sure that all streets are cleaned and excavations are cleaned up to minimize soil erosion.

Critical storm sewers and inlets along Huntington Court, Highland and Hilltop Drives were vacuumed and jetted by staff on Wednesday. Staff is also checking other storm sewers in the village known to be of concern during heavy rainfalls.

All of the village’s lift stations are fully operational with standby generators having been recently serviced and fully fueled. Village personnel will be prepared to respond to flooding situations.

The Public Works Department, working with the other village departments, will continue to monitor the weather until the system passes.

Residents are encouraged to check storm sewer covers in their neighborhoods to be sure that they are clear of debris. Motorists should avoid driving on roadways with standing water.
