The current detour for the closure of a part of IL-7 Southwest Highway, includes a route for southbound travelers west to US 45 LaGrange Rd, south to 135th Street, and east back to IL-7. The reverse route being for northbound travelers. This detour and modifications to this closure will remain in effect until late spring/early summer of 2026.

This IDOT project consists of roadway pavement widening, hot-mix asphalt surface removal and resurfacing, curb & gutter removal and replacement, thermoplastic pavement marking, raised reflective pavement markers and any collateral and incidental work necessary to complete the project.

This improvement is included in the Department’s FY2024-2029 Proposed Highway & Multimodal Improvement Program.  Current engineering efforts are targeted to enable a contract letting in early years of the multi-year program contingent upon plan readiness and funding.

The project is scheduled to start May 1, 2025 and be completed by June 30, 2025.

IDOT will be repairing Lane 2 at the west leg of 143^rd and Harlem to properly stage traffic throughout the project. The lane closure is tentatively scheduled for the week of April 21-April 25, 2025 in order to complete work.

This Cook County project that includes roadway reconstruction and adding a multi-use path is currently in Phase I Design Engineering. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.

Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDOTH) is in the design stage of a Countywide Pavement Rehabilitation Program with the purpose of maintaining and preserving existing pavement on County roadways.  The goal of this program is to rehabilitate and extend the service life of the roadways, supporting the Department’s goal of protecting the public investment in the highway system and providing safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation infrastructure.

The following locations within the Village have been identified to be included in the program.

• Wolf Road – W 143rd Street
• 104th Avenue – 179th Street to W 167th Street
• 151st Street – Will Cook Road to Wolf Road
• 153rd Street – Wolf Road to 100th/West Avenue
• 80th Avenue – 170th Place to 151st Street

Work within the Wolf Road Corridor includes pavement resurfacing and patching, sidewalk ramp improvements for Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliance, culvert repair or replacement, and detector loop replacement at the intersection of Wolf Road with 143rd Street.

Work within the 104th Avenue Corridor includes pavement resurfacing and patching, sidewalk ramp improvements for Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliance, culvert repair or replacement, and traffic signal modernization and detector loop replacement at the intersections of 104th Avenue with 179th Street and 167th Street.

Work within the 151st Street Corridor includes pavement resurfacing and patching, and sidewalk ramp improvements for Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliance.

Work within the 153rd Street Corridor includes pavement resurfacing and patching, sidewalk ramp improvements for Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliance, traffic signal modernization at the intersection of 153rd Street and 108th Avenue, and detector loop replacement at the intersection of 153rd Street with 100th / West Avenue. Additionally, a pedestrian refuge island is proposed at the intersection of 153rd Street with Huntington Court.

Work within the 80th Avenue Corridor includes pavement patching only.

This Cook County project is currently in Phase I Preliminary Design Engineering.

The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDOTH) is leading a preliminary engineering and environmental (Phase I) engineering study of Will-Cook Road north of Oak Hill Drive where the Villages of Orland Park and Homer Glen abut. The study limits are along Will-Cook Road from 100’ south of Lynch Drive to 660’ south of 151^st Street (see map below). Will-Cook Road is under the jurisdiction of CCDOTH. The land east of the roadway is Cook County and the land west of the roadway is Will County. The purpose of the Phase I study is to identify a solution that will alleviate the pavement flooding that occurs at the low point in the roadway profile north of Oak Hill Drive, eliminate future road closures and enhance safety.

The roadway is classified as a Local Road and the overall land use in the area is residential. The Average Daily Traffic (ADT) along Will Cook Road is 6,600 vehicles per day and the posted speed limit along this corridor is 45mph. The existing roadway is two lanes with paved shoulders on either side. It is anticipated that the existing two lane roadway configuration will be maintained in the proposed condition as additional lanes are not warranted based on existing traffic volumes. CCDOTH is planning to host a public information meeting for the project in 2025 to present the proposed improvements and obtain feedback from residents prior to proceeding with detailed design and construction. The Phase I study is anticipated to be completed in 2025.

Project Description

The project consists of street rehabilitation to restore pavement integrity and improve drainage. Incidental to the pavement restoration will be scattered curb, sidewalk and driveway replacements. Driveway repairs are dictated by incidental curb and/or sidewalk replacement. Road improvement Program is scheduled to begin in spring.

The following construction activities are anticipated:

• Pavement resurfacing or wholesale replacement
• Partial curb and sidewalk removal/replacement
• Driveway repairs incidental to curb or sidewalk replacement
• Installation of sidewalk crosswalk approaches at applicable street intersections, to conform with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations
• Sidewalk raising (trip hazards in excess of ¾ inches) via “mud-jacking” process
• Storm sewer repairs and select underdrain installations to address subsurface road drainage issues

A follow-up flyer will be distributed when final paving is scheduled, to alert local residents of the prime coat treatment. This flyer is provided to avoid vehicle tracking of the prime onto driveways, as well as the prime collecting on vehicles. Every effort is made to ensure the prime application is made at a time of day when traffic is light.

We ask that you please drive slowly and cautiously, taking note of workers, construction vehicles, construction signage and electronic message board notifications.

SCHEDULE:

11/3/2025: Brick paver maintenance along both sides of 143rd Street between LaGrange Road and Main Street will begin in the month of November. Anticipated completion date by December 15th.

Scam Alert: We have received notice that residents have been solicited by individuals impersonating Village staff. These individuals have falsely informed residents that they were responsible for a portion of the repairs being made in front of their residences. There have also been incidences wherein the individuals pose as the construction contractors to lure residents out of their house while an accomplice enters the home from the back. Contact the police immediately if you suspect suspicious activity.

Water Transmission Main Bid Package 7A.

This project will consist of the installation of a water transmission main traveling through Orland Park at 70^th Court and Wheeler Drive.  The water transmission main will be installed via the open cut method. Construction will be starting near the intersection of 157th Place and Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park with work in Orland Park anticipated to start the week of September 16, 2024.

This project is an extension of previous water main construction done on Wheeler and will be conducted by the same contractor. Work is estimated to take several months, with repaving to take place in Spring of 2025. Traffic is expected to be maintained throughout the duration of the project, with short and intermittent road closures as needed. 

The Village of Oak Lawn Regional Water System (RWS) is upgrading and expanding its ability to provide Lake Michigan water to the residents of the Southwest Suburbs including the Village of Orland Park. As part of these improvements, a new Water Transmission Main and Intake Structure will be constructed within the area bordered by 151st Street, Catalina Drive, Wheeler Drive / ComEd right-of-way and Liberty Park / Raintree Drive.

Transmission Main will be installed in the ComEd Right-of-Way South of 82nd Avenue to Catalina Drive with potential impacts to residents on: 

• Anne Drive
• Primrose Court
• Tulip Court
• Orchid Court
• Sunflower Court
• Halesia Court

The Village of Orland Park is a member of the Regional Water Supply (RWS) system. RWS is a group of 12 communities that receive water from the Village of Oak Lawn, who receives Lake Michigan water from the City of Chicago.  The Village’s existing water infrastructure is close to 40 years old and the Village has been working with RWS for several years to install a redundant water supply line from Oak Lawn.  This water line is called Spur 2 and it will serve as a redundant water line for the Village.

Construction started in late 2023 and projected to be completed by 2025.

It is anticipated that the pipeline work will be completed by the middle of July and roadway repair work will be completed by the end of August.  These estimated timelines may change due to weather, availability of contractors and materials.

The detour will be active during work hours and the road will be reopened at the end of each day. It is estimated that the closing will last about a month.

The goal of this project is to improve the stormwater drainage on the east side of 82^nd Avenue from Kristo Lane to Katy Lane near Wedgewood Estates Park. Construction is expected to start October 20, 2025 and be completed approximately in 3-4 weeks, weather permitting. This work includes ditch regrading, replacing culverts and pavement patching work. Construction notices will be sent out to properties within the vicinity of the project 2 weeks before construction begins.

Design engineering will begin in 2024 to address nuisance roadside stormwater drainage along Wolf Road near the 139th Street intersection. This project will also set up the ground elevations necessary to construct the future McGinnis Slough Bike Path project.

The 145th Place Sidewalk project is temporarily on hold. 

The Public Works Department performs work in public right of ways, public roadways, utility easements, public ponds, public parks, and Village facilities. 

Public Works performs work on streets, utilities, natural resources, and facilities. The streets division deals with sidewalks, curbs, potholes, pavement repair, street lighting, restoration, and bike paths. The utility division deals with fire hydrants, b-boxes, water repairs/maintenance, sanitary sewers, storm inlets, stormwater, ponds, and park drinking fountains. The natural resources and facilities division deals with playground equipment, park garbage cans, mowing, and public/parkway trees.
