Orland Park Police Department Launches Cruise Lights Pilot Program

Orland Park, IL (December 16, 2025) – The Orland Park Police Department will soon launch a new pilot program meant to increase officer visibility though the expanded use of cruise lights.

Cruise lights are designed to increase visibility without signaling an emergency response. Unlike traditional emergency lights, which are high intensity, flashing red and blue strobes often accompanied by a siren, cruise lights are steady, non flashing red and blue lights used without sirens. This feature is already equipped on department squad cars and will now be used more regularly during routine patrols.

“This initiative is about being visible, accessible and engaged with the community,” said Orland Park Police Chief Eric Rossi. “When residents can easily see our officers, it helps deter crime, provides reassurance and reinforces our commitment to serving the people of Orland Park.”

Residents and visitors may notice patrol vehicles displaying cruise lights as officers patrol commercial areas, business districts, parking lots and residential neighborhoods, particularly during evening and nighttime hours.

Motorists are reminded that they are only required to pull over when a police vehicle displays flashing red and blue lights, especially when accompanied by a siren. When lights are steady and not flashing, officers are conducting routine patrols, and drivers should continue traveling normally.

The Cruise Lights Patrol Program reflects the Orland Park Police Department’s ongoing commitment to proactive, visible and community-focused policing.
