Orland Park, IL (December 13, 2025) – With the holiday shopping season underway, the Orland Park Police Department is reminding residents and visitors to stay alert and make safety a priority. While visiting stores, malls, and local shopping centers, being aware of your surroundings and following a few simple precautions can help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday season for everyone.
“Our goal is to help everyone celebrate the holidays without becoming victims of crime,” said Orland Park Police Chief Eric Rossi. “A few extra moments of awareness can make all the difference.”
While you are shopping, please be aware of your surroundings and follow these safety tips.
- Stay aware of your surroundings. If something looks suspicious or feels “off,” trust your instincts.
- Remember where you parked. Large shopping areas can be disorienting and losing track of your vehicle can cause confusion and make you more vulnerable.
- Park in well-lit areas if you’re shopping late in the day or after dark.
- Shop with a friend or family member when possible; there’s safety in numbers.
- Have your car key ready when returning to your vehicle.
- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Use a card when you can; if you must carry cash, keep it in your front pocket.
- Keep valuables and purchased items out of sight in your vehicle to discourage theft.
These steps may not stop every crime, but following these simple precautions can significantly lower your risk of becoming a victim.
As always, if you see something, say something. For more information, contact the Orland Park Police Department at (708) 364-4111.
