Orland Park Celebrates the 250th Birthdays of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps
Village Board Honors Navy and Marine Corps on Quarter-Millennial Anniversary
Orland Park, IL (November 10, 2025) – The Village of Orland Park proudly commemorated the 250th birthdays of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps during the October 20, 2025, Village Board of Trustees meeting. The celebration marked more than two centuries of courage, service, and sacrifice in defense of freedom.
“I am incredibly proud to recognize the birthdays of the Navy and Marine Corps and to celebrate this momentous occasion,” said Mayor Jim Dodge. “It’s important to honor the courage and dedication of the sailors and marines who have helped shape our nation.”
Both branches were established by the Second Continental Congress in 1775, laying the foundation for a tradition of honor and excellence that has endured through every chapter of American history. Many Orland Park residents have proudly contributed to that legacy through their service and sacrifice.
“Our Navy and Marine Corps continue to produce well-trained and well-led service members ready to face any challenge,” added Mayor Dodge. “Our community stands firmly behind those who serve.”
Mayor Dodge and Trustee Dina Lawrence joined members of American Legion Post #111 on November 10 at the Orland Park Veterans Center to honor the milestone and deliver a commemorative plaque that will be displayed for all to enjoy.
