FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Orland Park Police Department Bids a Heartfelt Farewell to Police Employee and K9 Officer

Leo the Therapy Dog to Remain with Family

Orland Park, IL (July 5, 2025)- The Orland Park Police Department wishes to extend its sincere gratitude and heartfelt farewell to Civilian Police employee Rich Miller, a devoted member of our team who has played an integral role in enhancing community relations through his work with Leo, the beloved therapy dog. As Miller embarks on a new chapter in his career, we recognize the profound impact his dedication has had on our community over the years.

While Miller accepted a position in a neighboring town in August of 2024, the Village was pleased that he was able to continue to be involved with the community on a part-time basis through last week, ensuring that the residents of Orland Park could continue to benefit from the comforting presence of Leo, who has touched the lives of so many during his time with the department.

Due to the increasing requirements and commitments of the new role, Miller soon realized he could no longer fulfill the part-time duties required to keep Leo integrated within the department. As a result, he made the difficult choice to resign his part-time position at the end of June 2025.

In light of the strong bond that has developed between Leo and the Miller family, and the unique comfort and joy Leo brings, it was decided that the best option would be for Leo to remain with his loved ones as they transition into this new phase of life.

"We are truly grateful for Rich's dedicated service and the positive impact he, along with Leo, has had on our community," said Eric Rossi, Chief of the Orland Park Police Department. "Leo has proven to be an irreplaceable asset, providing companionship and therapy to those in need. We wish Rich and his family all the best in their future endeavors, and we trust that Leo will continue spreading joy and support wherever he may be."

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Rich Miller for his years of dedicated service and to acknowledge Leo for being such a good boy, bringing comfort and joy to the residents of Orland Park. Their partnership has enhanced our community in ways that words cannot fully express.

We look forward to seeing how Leo continues to bring warmth and positivity to those fortunate enough to share in his life.
