ORLAND PARK, IL (June 1, 2022) – Orland Park has been named one of Chicago Magazine's Best Places to Live in the June/July 2022 edition of the publication.

"This is a wonderful honor for Orland Park," said Mayor Keith Pekau. "The Village's natural open spaces, our proximity to downtown Chicago, great schools and a thriving real estate market were all important parts of Orland Park being named," the mayor said.

"It's especially gratifying when a well-respected source like Chicago Magazine makes an unsolicited finding that recognizes our community's value," the mayor added.

"With over 650 acres of parkland, this village lives up to its name," author Carissa Crawford Chappell wrote in the magazine feature, noting not only the Village’s own parks and trails but the ease of access to the Cook County Forest Preserve system from both the north and south ends of town.

"We are very proud of being named in the publication for the Village's livability, home values, schools, well-maintained streets and most of all, public safety," said Pekau.  "While those of us living here have known this all along, it is nice to be recognized for these qualities.”

The author studied how home prices have fared in recent years compared with prices in neighboring areas as well as whether buyers can get good value for their money. Orland Park's median home sale price for 2021 was $399,900, with a five year change of 32%. The number of home sales in Orland Park for 2021 was listed at 642 single-family homes.

In describing the many options of home purchases in the area, Crawford Chappell noted “You can find cheaper suburbs nearby, but not with the great schools and other amenities Orland Park offers…which is why this town of nearly 60,000 appeals to young families and empty nesters alike.”

"They studied everything that makes Orland Park great --- a variety of housing options, our low crime rate, great schools, outstanding parks, transportation, a superior shopping experience for all," explained Pekau."

“What keeps value are good schools, well-maintained streets and safety,“ said Ray Morandi of Morandi Properties. “And that’s not going to change in Orland Park, as people are going to continue to look for that.”
